The Electoral Registration Officer will be getting in touch with every household to check that the electoral register is up to date, and to identify any residents who should be registered but are currently missing. This Annual Canvass has now started in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde council areas. Following changes to the legislation governing the annual canvass we can now contact you by email or post.
It doesn’t matter where you were born. If you are aged 16 and over you are able to vote in elections in Scotland but only if you register to vote first. With all nationalities now able to vote in Scottish Parliament and council elections, this will be an important opportunity to ensure these new voters can get onto the electoral register before next year’s Scottish Parliament election in May 2021.
Please check the communication we have sent you recently and if all the details are correct there is no further action required on your part.
If however you do need to make any changes please follow the instructions on your communication and respond as directed. By following the steps outlined this will enable any changes to be recorded and allow you access to the government website at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in order to complete your registration process.
Remember, you need to be registered before you can vote, so to ensure you do not lose out on having your voice heard on decisions that affect you make sure your electoral registration details are up to date.
